[SITE RELATED] Happy New Year!

With the start of 2026, I’m hoping to make changes with my life. Starting with this blog. I’m shooting for a post a day, or, failing that, once a week. I’m trying to get a backlog of reviews over at the sister site. I’d like to finish the second draft of my novel, as well as improving my writing career in some fashion.

I make a lot of plans, only to fall short. Here’s hoping for the future, though.

[A MONTH OF HORROR – VIII] Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital

Streaming in a haunted locale proves foolhardy. Shocking, right?

I picked this one because it was one of my favorite subgenre. Namely, annoying internet influencers go some place bad and die. It’s a surprisingly big subgenre including films like Deathstream and #ChadGetstheAx.

Anyways, it has its characters head to a spooky hospital where people died from one reason or another. I’m enjoying it, getting vibes like from one of my faves of this subgenre, Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum. More than that, the film even name checks Gonjiam.

Film ends, and as the credits roll I’m mentally comparing the two. It’s been a couple years, so memories fade, but I was thinking this was the better of the two flicks.

Then it happens. A credit pops up saying this flick was a remake of Gonjiam.

I just started laughing.

Fine flick. I’m giving it the same score as Gonjiam, but this, I think, is the better of the two.

[SISTER SITE] Schedule for the Blog that Actually Updates!

Okay, I had a moment. I kept putting reviews in at the wrong dates. Part of the problem was I decided (not without good reason) to alternate reviews New, Golden Oldie, New, Golden Oldie. That made doing the math in my head… harder.

So today I opened up Scriveners and made a list. Which I leave below. Note I don’t have Golden Oldies done or even picked out yet. That’s the next project. When it’s finished, I should have reviews up to almost the end of the year.

Hopefully more new ones are in bound. Though there’s always October.

[MONTH OF HORROR] Hospital/Prince of Darkness/When Evil Lurks

I didn’t get a review up for yesterday, but not because I didn’t watch a movie. I finished Hospital and found I didn’t want to talk about it. In a nutshell, it’s about an Exorcist that takes two women through a haunted hospital, where the usual fun and games happen. Good chills, I had thought, but didn’t like the ending. Couldn’t understand why I couldn’t seal the deal and write a review.

This morning I woke and decided the problem was that I was being too kind to it. That worked out, the review came easy.

Same night, I tried to get a wee bit ahead by watching Prince of Darkness, John Carpenter’s glorious flick about liquid Satan sealed in a jar. Still one of the best Lovecraft flicks that has nothing to do with Lovecraft. This one I struggle with because of my affection for it. But I got it done.

When Evil Lurks was my flick for today–the day it came out. Two brothers struggle to deal with Demonic incursion and fail about as badly as one can fail. It’s a great flick, but too dark for me. In fact, I don’t think I can review it for the Sister Site.

Good thing I watched the Carpenter flick…

Anyway, Day 27 and 27 reviews. I got a back log almost all the way through next April. Feels good.

[Sister Site] NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! or, How Many Time Am I Gonna Watch This Flick Again?

So.

Was prepping the Review Site to resume service.

Going to dust off Cathy’s Curse. The first review has to be first, right? I’ll just go over the review, change the format, put it up Friday. I can’t Print Screen Blu Rays, so darn, can’t redo the picture. Just going to have to watch my Blu Ray copy after I finish, refresh the memories, that sort of thing.

Only it occurs to me to look the film up on YouTube.

And I watch some of it to refresh my memories of a problem I had. Namely that in the initial incident, where the antagonist gets killed in a fire, you can clearly see a door open behind her.

In watching, I notice something.

The version I had of the movie? Had title cards explaining the action.

This one? Doesn’t.

Worse? So far, it doesn’t look that bad.

Which means…

Which means…

I’m watching Cathy’s Curse, aren’t I? A third time.

God knows what that’ll do to my fragile little mind. Pray for me.
