A group of miners and other souls enter an abandoned mine and find out just why it was abandoned.
Okay, here’s the deal.
Story’s okay, consisting of people roaming off alone into the dark to die. There’s a whole chunk of odious comic relief to sit through, too. A little questionable moments here and there, too.
Characters lean towards irritating, but not enough to ruin the flick. Not helping is the acting sits right about at acting.
The score sounds cribbed from John Carpenter, which is a good thing. And it really doesn’t wear out it’s welcome.
What makes it worth watching, in my poor opinion, is the Strangeness itself, a glorious tentacled thing realized through stop motion. Really a thing to behold.
Now if you really need to see a miner-in-danger flick, either My Blood Valentine or The Boogens is the way to go. Much better flicks. This, though, is a fairly decent time-killer.
Nothing wrong with that.
